In both the cases of temp-to-hire and contract employment, there is a set time period that elapses, with the individual serving the needs of a company without being a direct employee. The main difference is the nature of the work that individuals are sought out to do. At the end of a waiting period, a temp-to-hire job seeker’s goal is to become a permanent employee of the company they served. Contract employment is similar, but more project-oriented, with a clearly defined or at least projected end date. Once the project has been completed, the contract worker’s employment ends.
